KIWANIS CLUB OF AUBURN-LEWISTON – Newsletter for MAY 28, 2008

PANCAKE BREAKFAST

Its time! The 51st Annual Pancake Breakfast is just around the corner. It is June 8, less than two weeks away.
We need your help! We need you to be contacting your corporate prospects and selling them tickets. We need you to be selling your individual tickets. Remember: It doesn’t matter how many people show up to eat. We make our money selling advance tickets.
We also need your help setting up on Saturday, June 7, and on the day of the breakfast, cooking and serving from 6:00 Am until 11:30 AM, and cleaning up beginning at 11:30 AM.
Always keep in mind, this is our only fundraiser of the year. From this we pay three scholarships (four for this coming year) for area high school seniors at $750 each, museum passes at both the Auburn Public Library and the Lewiston Public Library for area museums, eyeglasses for underprivileged schoolchildren, and donations to area charities.
Club events: The Scholarship Committee has settled on the scholarship recipients. The names will be revealed at the awards nights held at each high school. There was a strong pool of applicants, so strong that your Board of Directors agreed to award four scholarships this year, instead of the usual three. Be watching for an announcement of the winners.
Key Clubs: The school year is winding down, but not the three Key Clubs. They may have chosen their officers for 2008-09, but they are not resting! They will be out in force helping at our Pancake Breakfast on June 8. Come meet and thank them for supporting the Kiwanis Family
District & International events: Don’t forget, the International Convention will be in Florida, at the end of June. You should sign up soon, if you plan to go.

Our website, http://kiwanisauburnlewistonmaine.org, is interesting and fresh because of each one of us. We don’t have to be featured on the site, but we should contribute to it frequently. To do that, just get in touch with Mike Meservier at mike@meservier.com. He can walk you through the process.
We will get more viewers when we have an interesting website, one that we update often. Get him anything and everything!

Kiwanis Logo

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time.

Yes...YOU can make a difference!

What Is A Kiwanian?

Kiwanis Name...
The name “Kiwanis” means “we trade” or “we share our talents.” It was coined from an American Indian expression, Nunc Kee-wanis.
Kiwanians are volunteers changing the world through service to children and communities. Kiwanis members help shelter the homeless, feed the hungry, mentor the disadvantaged, and care for the sick. They develop youth as leaders, build playgrounds, raise funds for pediatric research, and much more. No problem is too big or too small. Why? Because working together, members achieve what one person cannot accomplish alone. When you give a child a chance to learn, experience, dream, and succeed, great things happen!
As Kiwanis clubs and members, we see it everyday!
